SAGA DAWA DÜCHEN is one of the four major Buddhist festivals. It commemorates the enlightenment and Parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. It is considered one of the most powerful days of the year, and gathering together to practice and recite the special prayers generates boundless merit, which we will dedicate especially to universal peace and to the welfare of all sentient beings.

Everyone is warmly welcome to participate, so that together we can make an indirect contribution to pacifying the difficulties that the world is facing.

The Maitreya Aspiration Prayer is a foundational Mahayana Buddhisttext where the future Buddha Maitreya pledges to achieve enlightenment andliberate all beings through the six perfections. Originating in the MaharatnakutaSutra, it focuses on generating compassion, realizing emptiness, andfollowing the bodhisattva path.

Key Aspects of the Prayer:

Purpose: To cultivate loving-kindness, purify negative actions, and gain merit by following the example of past and future Buddhas.

Core Themes:

Six Perfections: Aspiration to master generosity, ethics, patience, perseverance, meditation, and wisdom.
Emptiness: Understanding that all phenomena are unborn and lack inherent existence.
Liberation: A pledge to free sentient beings from the “ocean of existence”.
