Mother and Protectress with White Umbrella – known for her great power to bestow protection, avert obstacles and purify defilements. 

Sitatapatra (Dukkar/tib.) is a female deity whose power originated from the crown protuberance (ushnisha) of Buddha Shakyamuni while he remained in samadhi in the Heaven of the Thirty-three. Sitatapatra’s name means “white umbrella” and it is the main emblem that she holds with her left hand. She is brilliantly white in color and full of love and compassion.

The practice related to this deity is considered a powerful method to avert obstacles and gives immediate protection in adverse circumstances. Reciting her mantra is said to avert evil influences and purify defilements.

THE HEART SUTRA

The Heart Sutra, or Sutra of Supreme Wisdom, is one of the most popular Mahayana Buddhist sutras and is considered the essence of the Prajnaparamita texts.

If we lack the wisdom that can discriminate accurately between reality and fantasy, we lack the most important tool for fulfilling our own and other’s worldly and spiritual positive aims. In a state of unawareness and confusion, we can only guess what will be helpful for us or for someone else, and often we’re wrong. With far-reaching discriminating awareness – the perfection of wisdom – coupled with compassion and a Bodhicitta aim, we can become a Buddha and know in full the most effective and appropriate methods for benefiting each and every being there is.

There are many aspects of illness and everyone is affected in one way or another. There are physical illnesses, mental illnesses, illnesses caused by hindering forces and there are also illnesses that affect animals, the environment and humanity itself. We live in a time when diseases are rampant, creating imbalances at various levels and this creates great suffering for many beings. Ritualism, in this case related to the Medicine Buddha, is a special method taught by the Buddha through which we can all make our subtle contribution so that all this can be pacified.

In Tibetan Buddhism, death is not viewed as an end, but as a crucial transition that offers extraordinary potential for liberation. In this weekend seminar, we explore how confronting our mortality can deepen our appreciation for life and accelerate spiritual growth. We discuss contemplative practices on impermanence and death that help us create a meaningful life, as well as traditional teachings on the bardo (the transitional phases of consciousness), with emphasis on the stages of the dying process.

SAGA DAWA DÜCHEN – PRAYERS FOR UNIVERSAL PEACE

SAGA DAWA DÜCHEN is one of the four major Buddhist feasts. It celebrates Buddha Shakyamuni’s enlightenment and Parinirvana. It is one of the most powerful days of the year and being together to practise and recite the special prayers generates boundless merit, which we will dedicate in particular to universal peace and the benefit of all sentient beings. 

You are all welcome to participate so that together we can make our indirect contribution to pacifying the difficulties the world is facing. You may certainly also participate in just one part of the evening.

On his enlightenment at the age of thirty-five in Bodhgaya, the Buddha proclaimed:

“Profound peace, natural simplicity, uncompounded luminosity, I have found a nectar-like Dharma.”

When Buddha lay dying in a forest grove in Kushinagara, surrounded by five hundred of his disciples, he said to them with his last breath:

“It is in the nature of all things that take form to dissolve again. Strive with your whole being to attain perfection.”

The extraordinary events in his life unfolded from suffering to black magic, from regret to harsh purification, from rigorous asceticism to the bliss of realisation. Having reached the pinnacle of the path, he instructs and inspires all beings he encounters with the poetic beauty of his vajra chants, through which he teaches all aspects of the Dharma.

There are many aspects of illness and everyone is affected in one way or another. There are physical illnesses, mental illnesses, illnesses caused by hindering forces and there are also illnesses that affect animals, the environment and humanity itself. We live in a time when diseases are rampant, creating imbalances at various levels and this creates great suffering for many beings. Ritualism, in this case related to the Medicine Buddha, is a special method taught by the Buddha through which we can all make our subtle contribution so that all this can be pacified.
